I love making gowns! I will, and have, made them out of just about anything that strikes my fancy. To get the look I am after I have worked with silk, wool, cotton, paper, mylar, sequins, hand beaded chiffon, all sorts of reLoved goodness… and now juniper.
The foundation for the skirt is a farthingale that I made from drapery lining and medium weight boning. The boughs were sustainably harvested from the local forest and will be dried for sachets after the shoot. Juniper has the most amazing smell that reminds me of living in the forest and gin ;)
The corset is made from reLoved wool that was formerly a sports coat complete with leather elbow patches… it is lined with black rabbit fur from a tattered vintage coat and red silk satin. This shape and style is flattering for nearly every body type while bringing a completely different look and feel to each wearer.
I love the wrap corset, it always fits (all month long) and the fur lining keeps the kidneys and core warm and cozy. It is boned with medium weight polyester boning which provides shape but doesn’t pinch or rust when cleaned… like all my favourite garments, it has a pocket just the right size for a cell and a change purse; just in case you find yourself at the local Soulstice party and want to have hands free for dancing…
