Originally this was a page about Nelson, BC. Which is in fact the ‘capital’ of the West Kootenays… and it is a small town boasting a population of about 10,000. However, it has become very obvious over the last couple of weeks, that although Nelson is the center, it is surrounded by lots of amazing small towns filled with all sorts of talent and enthusiasm.
This project has so far included a photographer from Argenta, a painter from Balfour, a lash maker from Kaslo, and several talents hailing from Nelson… and the list continues to grow.
I was raised in Procter and I will admit to having a bias towards life out the lake, and even after spending my twenties travelling and living in several big cities… Nelson is my favourite ‘city’ of all, although technically it would be considered a village by most of the rest of the world.
I will also to have to admit that basing a project that focusses on local talent out of Nelson, is almost cheating. The area boasts a bustling arts and culture community that rivals any of the cities that I have worked in. It has been my experience that the arts community tends to be a small select group no matter how large the city, it’s just that in this small town there is a majority of artistic citizens. It has further been my experience that the local population is keen to support and promote any and all local talent. It’s a community of participants.
I look forward to exploring and sharing all the gems that I find in this small town… and beyond.

Very reminiscent of another Nelson site I frequent. Even some of the same pics. Is there a connection?
